The kitchen has the ability to transport us to memories and feelings, it is its flavors and smells that play an essential role in this process. And it happens, that today I present to you a typical recipe of my mother in these Christmas times.
I remember with joy, that when was a girl; my mother made this cake for the month of December. And I, naughty, would hide under the table and when nobody was watching, I would steal the raisins and candied fruits from the cake. My mother, after a while knew that it was not a magical disappearance, it was her mischievous and greedy daughter who caused it. Beautiful memory.! ☺️😆
This cake is fluffy, soft and very sweet. Ideal to accompany with a glass of milk (beloved companion!). The presence of raisins and candied fruits make the sponge cake a surprise to the palate with each bite. 😋😋
- 300 gr. of butter.
- 300 gr. of sugar.
- 3 eggs.
- 500 gr. of self-rising wheat flour.
- 750 ml. of liquid milk.
- Vanilla extract.
- 100 gr. of raisins.
- 100 gr. of candied fruits.
- In a large bowl, place the butter. Beat until creamy. Then add the sugar. See figures 1 and 2. When an airy mixture forms, add the eggs. See figure 3. Add the vanilla extract. See figure 4.
- Add the wheat flour little by little, then the milk. Alternating both ingredients. See figures 5 and 6. After achieving the ideal texture, that is, a homogeneous mixture with integrated milk and flour. See figure 7. Now add the raisins and candied fruits. We remove. See figure 8 and 9. Finally, we must grease a mold and add the mixture. We bake until the cake is formed. When it is ready, it is when when inserting a toothpick, it comes out clean. See figure 10.

This recipe really has the goodness to transport me to my childhood. A cake that enchanted adults and children, I hope and this year it will be present on many tables in Venezuelan homes.
